Revision introduction

The mole connects a mass measurement to a number of particles. Use n=m/M with consistent mass units. A balanced equation gives mole ratios, not direct mass ratios. Identify the limiting reactant before calculating yield. Oxidation numbers help track electron transfer; a molecular formula is not the same as an empirical formula.

Original practice

How many moles are in 18 g of water (M=18 g/mol)?

  1. 1
  2. 18
  3. 0.5
  4. 324

Worked answer
