Revision introduction

Describe a measurement with its value, SI unit and uncertainty. For constant acceleration, v=u+at and s=ut+½at². These equations require constant acceleration; do not apply them blindly to variable acceleration. Dimensional consistency is a necessary check but cannot determine a dimensionless numerical factor.

Original practice

A body starts from rest with a=2 m/s². What is its speed after 3 s?

  1. 6 m/s
  2. 3 m/s
  3. 9 m/s
  4. 12 m/s

Worked answer

6 m/s

v=u+at=0+2×3=6 m/s.
