Revision introduction

Separate information stated in a passage from conclusions inferred from evidence. Support an inference with a relevant detail. In a paragraph, make one main point, develop it with evidence and explain the connection. Edit tense, subject–verb agreement and punctuation. Kaveri is the current Grade 9 reader; do not substitute the previous Beehive syllabus.

Consult the current official syllabus for examinable sections, project-only content, practicals, prescribed texts and exclusions. A unit index does not override those boundaries.

Original practice

Which response best supports an inference?

  1. A claim followed by a relevant detail
  2. An unrelated quotation
  3. A guess without evidence
  4. The title alone

Worked answer

A claim followed by a relevant detail

An inference combines textual evidence with reasoning; an unsupported guess is insufficient.
