Revision introduction

A polynomial has non-negative integer exponents of its variable. Its degree is the largest exponent with a non-zero coefficient. To find p(a), substitute a in every term. A zero of p(x) is a value for which p(x)=0. Identities hold for all allowed values; equations hold only at their solutions.

Original practice

What is p(2) for p(x)=x²−3x+2?

  1. 0
  2. 2
  3. 4
  4. 8

Worked answer

0

Substitute 2: 4−6+2=0, so 2 is a zero of the polynomial.
